In the recent past, I posted frequently on the pennlive.com East Pennsboro forum. I gave up reading and responding to posts on this site. Some of the people on the site have real issue with saying what they are thinking without hiding their identity. Someone recently called me letting me know that someone posted my name on this forum again. So I went out to take a look. What I find is someone asking me to do them a favor, in this case talk to the local school board again. The why is not really important, but I have an issue with this. If you really want to say something or have an idea, feel free to email or call the school board. To many times have I tried to help people looking for information and then have that thrown back in my face. I will help people that I know who they are. I will continue to refuse to help those who are not willing to share with me who they are or, on occasion, do things for themselves. Just because you can't, or choose not to, attend meetings doesn't mean you can't have your voice heard.

P.S. Be sure to include your name and address in your correspondence with the school board or you may never get a response. And when you call, be sure to let them know your name at least. Otherwise you may be labeled a telemarketer and be hung up on, at least that is how I screen my calls at home!

UPDATE - 4/26/2008 9:45AM: Thanks again to my friend for bringing a follow up post on pennlive to my attention. My blog made its mark on its intended target, but the message was yet again misunderstood. The point of this post is somewhat hidden. If you are going to take advantage of me or, in this case, run my name through the mud, I am not going to help you. That is the simple truth of this post. There is an old saying that gets close to what I am trying to say. "Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me." So, "Blake20", the only person on pennlive that doesn't mean anything to me is YOU!

Romans 3.13-14 NRSV: "Their throats are opened graves; they use their tongues to deceive. The venom of vipers is under their lips. Their mouths are full of cursing and bitterness"

UPDATE - 4/27/2008 7:17AM: The post mentioning my name has disappeared from the pennlive forum. Either the moderators removed it or someone ask for it to be removed. Like a few of the people who responded to "Blake20" said, we have many problems to solve without having to deal with any distractions.

Bus Stop Safety - Is it real or imagined?

My son was almost hit this morning by a car that decided to run through the red lights and stop sign of his bus. I am a pretty big bus safety proponent. To see that people still have no respect for a bus and the children they are transporting is very disheartening. It is not acceptable to have near misses when children on their way to school are concerned. I am trying to think of ways to force cars to stop at a bus stop. I have come up with one that I think might work. I would put a temporary, railroad style, gate across the road when the bus is slowing down to stop. These gates would have to be destroyed for a car to get by them. The bus could have a button to activate the gate. Counting on drivers to obey the law is becoming harder and harder to do. There is little respect for the law or the lives that the law is designed to protect. I will be working hard to get something done about this situation in my case, but if anyone else out there has a similar problem, let me know. I hope to post an update in the near future on the resolution to this problem. Also, if anyone has a suggestion on how to fix this problem please let me know. I would like to have many options to explore to fix this situation.

UPDATE 4/23/2008 4:13PM: After talking with my son, once he came home from school, I realize how proud I am of him. He told me the whole story that my wife told me. He also added that he looked both ways and saw the car not stopping, so he didn't cross the road. I can't put into words how good that makes me feel. It is one of those times as a parent that you realize your child is actually learning the important things from you.

Still no word on a resolution, but I am still working on it.

Wonderful Poem

Baby

Sapphire blues
gazing up at me.
Wondering what
her eyes might see.

Skin so delicate
like butterfly wings,
scented so sweet
like flowers of spring.

Copper gold layers,
whisk around her face.
Downy silk texture
intertwining like lace.

Round dainty face
adorned with button nose.
Ten reaching fingers
matching ten tiny toes.

An enchanting melody
beats from her heart,
humming as birds do
at morning’s early start.

Content in her slumber,
peacefully she dreams,
calm and radiant
like that of moonbeams.

Little gift from heaven;
a miracle of love.
Precious tiny soul,
given from Above.

Government Benefits

Seeing the reports about Social Security and Medicare, year after year, is getting very old. The government tells us all that we are not paying enough into the system to pay for those who are on the system. I wonder if they can tie this issue with the fact that health care costs are exceeding cost of living year after year. Fix the health care cost issue and maybe medicare would correct itself, it may even fix some of the financial issues most Americans feel due to medical expenses. That will only fix half the issue, but I think it may fix more than half. If, as a retired person, I am paying most if not all of my Social Security check to medications and we fix the medication cost issue, by fixing health care in general, this problem should go away as well. It would mean people could get by with less benefits, which might save the system.

Not to make a joke out of this issue, but doesn't this all make Logan's Run look like our potential path forward?

Robert's Rules

For anyone looking to catch up on Robert's Rules of Order, I would like to suggest getting Robert's Rules of Order Newly Revised In Brief. It is a very good book to get up to speed very quickly on meeting rules. For those who like to have all the rules, check out Robert's Rules of Order Newly Revised 10th Edition. These books come in handy for small to large meetings.

For those of you who happen to live near me, feel free to call me and ask to borrow my copies.
